Position Title: Security Operations Manager - 19 Wing Comox
Location: 19 Wing
Shift Schedule: 0700-1500; Mon- Friday excluding Stats (Must be available for on-call duty to respond to security incidents outside regular working hours).
Pay Rate: $25.90 plus RRSP contribution by employer
Supervisor: Chief Operating Officer
POSITION SUMMARY
The 19 Wing Comox Operations Manager is responsible to the DND Detachment Commander and the Base Operations Officer for the management of the Security Operations performed by all Commissionaires assigned to 19 Wing Comox. The successful candidate is responsive to the 19 Wing Comox Unit Security Officer (USO) for maintaining the security posture, all related performance of security duties and scheduling of the security guard staff assigned to 19 Wing Comox; ensuring a high standard of quality and customer service is maintained
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Security Operations Management: Oversee daily security operations, ensuring all security measures are implemented effectively and efficiently in accordance with regulations, orders, directives and instructions. Enforce security policies, procedures, and protocols to protect the organization’s assets, personnel, and information.
· Personnel Management: Recruit, train and supervise security staff, including security guards and supervisors. Ensure that all team members are adequately trained and prepared for their roles. Lead performance management and any potential disciplinary in accordance with company policy and procedures.
· Staffing Coverage: Ensure that all shifts are adequately staffed to always maintain the required level of security. Coordinate and approve requests for vacation, time off and LOA, while ensuring that such absences do not compromise security operations. Develop contingency plans to cover unplanned absences or sudden staffing shortages.
· Incident Management: Lead the response to security incidents, including investigations, reporting, and coordination with law enforcement and emergency services.
· Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with all applicable security regulations, standards, and best practices. Prepare and submit regular reports on security operations, incidents, and outcomes to senior management. Ensure the Detachment Commander and Base Operations (BOps) Security Office are made aware of any substantive issues or events.
· Client Coordination: Apprising the Unit Security Officer on all matters pertinent to base security and updating them of the need for ongoing adjustments in security and guarding regimens, as well as recommending changes to enhance the security posture.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Willingness to complete the Commissionaire Security Officers Course and OFA1 (Company supported)
- In possession of a Level II (Secret) security clearance issued by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC)
- BC Security Workers License
- Obtain and maintain a valid DND 404 driver’s license
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s license
- Recent experience in a military/police leadership role considered an asset
- Understanding of change management and creating coaching cultures
- Excellent leadership skills to ensure a positive workplace culture through use of collaboration, mentorship, and accountability
- Supervisory experience including a track record of success with performance management and effective coaching
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, complemented by active listening skills
- Professional and sound judgment
- Superior attention to detail and an ability to multi-task
- Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Ability to operate under stress and tight timelines
